Leisure Marine

The leisure market consists of both small and large non-commercial pleasure craft, including kayaks, dinghies, rigid inflatables, power boats, personal water craft and sailboats operating offshore, in coastal waters and inland waterways.

SOLAS Marine can supply a wide range of marine compasses to suit the leisure market. From small surface mounted compasses through flush and bracket mounted units to large binnacle compasses, we will have a compass to suit your application.

All models conform to ISO 25862 and have Marine Equipment Directive (MED) 96/98/EC type approval (The C3 series is excluded from the type approval).

Dinghies and RIBS

The dinghy and ridged inflatable market comprises of the smallest craft in the leisure sector. Although these craft are usually operated with costal waters a magnetic compass is still an essential piece of equipment. The high manoeuvrability of these craft can often temporarily disorientate the helmsman if a number of turns are made in quick succession, especially if made in choppy water. A small magnetic compass is all that is required to get back on the correct course.

The Autonautic C3 and C12/110 series are ideal for this application, both compasses are small, robust and lightweight.

Both compasses come in a range of colours and the C12/110 is available with either flat or conical card - a tactical card is also available for the serious dinghy racer. The C3 is a particular favourite for this market as the surface mounting allows for easy installation - no large aperture is required, only three small holes to accept the fixing screws.

Sailboat Cruising

SOLAS Marine can provide compasses to cover the full range of leisure sailing boats, from the smallest trailer sailer to a 100ft schooner and everything in between.

Although some may feel that the magnetic compass has been superseded by modern electronics, there can be no greater satisfaction than arriving at a destination having used nothing but wind, chart and compass.

All Autonautic class B compasses are suitable for installation in a sailing vessel, however, the C15 binnacle compass, C10 Bulkhead compass and the flush mount C12 Plus are particularly popular in the sailboat market.
