SOLAS Marine cover the fishing market from small day boats to commercial trawlers up to 35m in length and 150grt, although many fishing vessels are exempt from the full SOLAS navigation requirements, most states mandate that a magnetic compass must be installed on commercial fishing vessels.

All products in our main range of compasses would be suitable for installation in a fishing vessel, however, the 85mm and 100mm bracket compasses are popular choices for smaller vessels (up to 12m/40ft length)especially where wheelhouse space is limited. The C8 range can also be hung from the deckhead - this is an ideal solution when wheelhouse space is at a premium, it also has the added advantage of positioning the compass away from sources of magnetic interference.

For larger vessels not requiring a class A compass the 140mm carded CHB range would be suited, the CHB-0078 also gives the option of a reflector overhead compass for installations where helm space is at a premium.

Should a class A compass be mandated, the C20 range offers the option of bracket or binnacle mount compasses. The binnacle variant can also be supplied with an optional periscope to enable the compass to be installed above the wheel house whilst the heading is transmitted via the periscope to the helm position. Quadrantal correctors are standard on binnacle mount C20 compasses and optional on the bracket mount. An azimuth ring with siting vanes can be fitted as an optional extra to all models.
